Until one has loved an animal, a part of one's soul remains unawakened.

In Loving Memory...

-In memory of Roxy 10/18/2007-

Your last day on earth was a good one for dogs. The storms that were supposed to happen waited until later, and we went for a nice brisk walk in the sunshine. You hopped into the car, refusing to sit in back, and smiled as you sat in the passenger seat, co-pilot for the ride with the windows rolled down. We stopped at McDonald's for you, and I don't think you knew what to think about that, this last kind gesture from someone you barely know.

You daintily ate some of your Egg McMuffin, politely refusing the egg and hashbrown, but then went back to looking happily out the window. When we arrived at the vet, you were excited to be back- these were your best buddies, after all, the people you knew for the last 2 weeks. You bounced and wiggled, and it broke my heart how happy you seemed. When it was time, you were surrounded by friends, people who loved you probably more than you've ever been loved in your entire life, and we were terribly sad that it had to end this way.

The injustices, the cruelty that you lived through in a life before coming to us were too deeply ingrained, and you had decided it was safest to bite first and ask questions later. And it's terribly unfair, both to you and to us, who wanted to show you a world full of loving people who would never hurt you again. I only know that there is a better life, a happier life waiting for you on the other side. We love you, Roxy, and we will never, ever forget you. Godspeed, good girl.
