NATALIE DOGS: MELLOW DOGS OK Hi! I'm Natalie, a very sweet and special 10 year old girl. You see, my family loved me so much that when they lost their home and everything they had, they still took me with them. I was living with my family in an empty storage unit until they were kicked out, but even then they still they made sure that I was ok. They left me there with a big bag of open food and a bucket of water until Animal Control came to get me. I'm sure they miss me a lot, and I hope they know that I'm ok now that I'm with Young At Heart! I sure miss them, but let me tell you something- it's SO nice to be clean! Living on the streets is hard when you're a silky fluffy dog without a brush or a bath, and my hair was matted all the way down to my skin. I got a nice grooming when I came to Young at Heart, and I feel SO much better! I'm super sweet and mellow, and really just go where life takes me. I'm probably a chow/border collie mix, and I'm very healthy.
DOGS: OK Hi! I'm Samson, a cute little raggedy-muffin who is a wired-hair terrier/schnauzer mix. I'm the best boy ever, and found myself at the pound when my owner could no longer afford me. I am 8 years old, and such a wonderful boy. I am loving and gentle, housebroken completely, good with kids, dogs, and cats, and want nothing more than a lot of love. You may think I have funny hair, but when you touch me, you will be amazed at how soft and fluffy I am, that you will just want to pet me even more! I like to be held, though I can be a bit of a chunk in your arms at about 18 lbs, so laps do just fine, too. I'd make an excellent companion for any family. DOGS: MOST OK Hi! I'm Chase, a great guy who found himself at the pound after a divorce in my family. I'm 10-12 years old, a very smiley yellow lab mix, and am just an all around happy guy! I am housebroken, good with almost all dogs, and good with kids, though I still may have a bit too much energy for the tiny ones! Yep, even at my age, I love a good romp and a nice walk, car rides are right up my alley, and did I mention that I may like to snuggle up to you at night? Yep, I'm a good dog, an instant friend, a true companion. Even after all my heartbreak, I'm still smiling, happy to be out of the pound and I'm ready to meet my forever family! Is that with you? I'm Lady, a very sweet and laid back sheltie/lab mix whose owner could no longer afford me and turned me into the pound. I'm about 9 years old, and in good health, but the reason that my owner couldn't afford me anymore was because of my allergies. Young At Heart has me on a yummy salmon and sweet potato diet that seems to be working already, and I'm already less itchy! I may need occasional allergy shots when my seasonal allergies get too bad, which are not very expensive and provide me with weeks of relief. I am a great little girl and really enjoy romping with other doggies, I pay no attention to kitties, and I like kids, too! DOGS: OK Hi! I'm Casper, a very handsome 6 year old yellow lab/golden retriever cross. I am a very happy boy whose owner turned me into the pound with my friend, Cassie, and the wonderful people at my pound worked very hard to get me here to Young At Heart where I will surely find a great home! I'm a little head shy, which suggests maybe someone was mean to me at one time, so quick movements tend to make me hit the dirt. Because of this, I'd be better in a home with older kids who don't throw things around and make quick sudden movements that will scare me. I'm ok with kids of all ages though, and I have a great temperament- the rescue just thinks I would handle a quieter home a bit better! I am a bit tough on a leash, but I love to romp and play outside and snuggle up against you so you can scratch my ears while you sit on the couch. DOGS: BIGGER DOGS OK Hi! I'm Cassie, a beautiful and super friendly 9 year old lab/aussie mix. I am a very happy go lucky girl whose owner turned her into the pound after all my years of love and affection. Luckily, I was turned into a pound with very nice people who worked very hard to get me and my buddy Casper to safety with Young at Heart. When I arrived, I was suffering from bladder stones, so I had surgery right away, and do I feel better! The stones were as big as campfire marshmallows! I'm feeling like a million bucks now, and am very healthy. I'll probably have to be on a prescription diet, or at least a high end diet, to ensure I never get stones again, but that's not much to require for how much love I give in return! I'm good with other big dogs, love to give and get love, am housebroken, and good with kids! FREDD DOGS: OK Hi, I'm Fredd- yes, Fredd with two ds! The shelter who picked me up as a stray said that is because they already had one Fredd with one d, but Foster Mom says I get two d's because I am so special! I am about 9 years old, though I'm the most active of the bunch at my Foster Mom's house, and I was very thin when I got rescued and had been on the street a while, but at some point I knew a house because I got the hang of this housebreaking thing right away! And I know stairs, and how to behave, And I especially know how to get Foster Mom to pick me up and rub my belly. Boy, I love getting my belly rubbed! My gangly legs flop with joy and my tongue hangs out and I give big kisses. I love kids- I can get them to rub my belly, too. Plus throw the ball. And I love my foster brothers and sisters. We play all day. I am what some people would call "special needs", but I really don't need anything special for my heart murmur or my mild hip dysplasia- neither one has bothered me thus far in li fe! I walk a little wobbly because of the one hip, but the vet says it's fine like it is. As far as cats- I try to get them to play- I do the cute play stance thing, and woof, but all they do is swat at me. I eventually give up. But I will not give up looking for you! Haven't you looked long enough? You won't find a better dog than me, Fredd! Medical Update 10/15/08: Hi everyone! Fredd here giving you the latest update on my favorite subject, me! I went to a specialist to have a neurological exam done, because my back end was very quickly deteriorating with each passing day. Some days I had a lot of trouble even getting my back end up off the ground! So I went to see a very nice doctor and I had an MRI done- turns out it wasn't neurological, but that 2 discs in my back were basically crushed and, in return, diminishing the use of my spinal cord from those points on. So, Young at Heart decided to let the nice doctor perform spinal surgery on me, and boy, am I glad they did! It's now a week past my surgery, and though I look a bit like Frankenstein with all my stitches and staples, it's all my foster mom can do to keep me down! I am even trying to lift my back leg to pee! The vet said that, without a doubt, the injuries I sustained were from someon e kicking me. The rescue is amazed at how much I still love people even though I was in excruciating pain and someone cruel had caused that pain. I'm in recovery and will then begin therapy, but I'm on the road to recovery. RAMONA DOGS: NO Hi! I'm Ramona, a very nice Sharpei Mix who got lucky when a kind soul tied me to the fence at a Humane Society after I had lost my way from home. My owner was located, but she is too ill to care for me anymore, so I came to Young At Heart. I enjoyed a short stint as an assisted living dog, but need someone to pay one on one attention to me so that I can let them know when I need something. I am a very easy going dog,a great dog for a senior citizen or work from home situation, as I need go potty every few hours. I am approx 10 years old, about 40 pounds, and just like the easy life- short walks, good petting, 2 square meals a day, and a comfy place to plunk down and take a nap. I'm very healthy, though hard of hearing, and I take inexpensive meds for my arthritis, I'm crate-trained, I'm a good girl in the car and enjoy meeting new people. I would do best in a home where you are home a lot, as my favorite thing is to sit beside you and keep you company. Are you looking for a calm, sweet dog? I'm your girl! MATTIE DOGS: OK Hi there! I'm Mattie, a 10+ year old beautiful mixed breed that looks like a miniature husky! I am a petite little flower, roughly 25-30 pounds and like a sweet lady, I do not act my age...I must be young at heart! :) My guardian was sent into assisted living and could not take me along, which broke both of our hearts. My mom told me that I would find someone to love me as much as she did, and I believe her. Young At Heart promised to find me that special someone, and it makes me happy to hear that! I'm very active for my age- I love to romp in the yard and go for long walks. I am very healthy and can keep up with my younger counterparts! I'm good with other dogs, ignore cats except for when they get near my food, and then I need to yell at them! I'm good with kids, too, but I am a mooch and will steal food right out of their hands, so I should only live with older kids or adults only. The rescue thinks that maybe in my owner's last days, there may have been a bit of erratic behavior, because I act like I had to scavenge for my food a bit and I act like I've been hit as well. I need a patient home that understands the upheaval in my life and just wants to give me some great last years! I really am a darling girl, and just want to be in a loving home once more. MINNIE PEARL DOGS: OK Hi! I'm Minnie Pearl, and I am the sweetest little Miniature Pinscher ever! I'm a very sweet 10+ year old girl who loves to snuggle under blankets, be held in your arms, and share your lap! I am housebroke and good with other dogs. I have a very nice temperament, and would even do ok with kitties. I'm a sweetie pie with kids, but because I am older and a bit more fragile than I used to be, the rescue will only place me with kids 12+ years old so I can enjoy some peace and quiet in my golden years! TIGER DOGS: OK Hi I'm 6 yr old Tiger, but don't let my name fool you, I'm a lover, not a fighter ; ) I've already won the heart of my foster family and even my foster dog-sister! She's letting me snuggle with her in this photo. I'm very sweet, house trained - like snuggling, but don't have to constantly be with you - I like curling up on a nice soft rug and taking naps in the sun, but I also still have lots of energy and like taking walks. The rescue is still getting to know me, so they'll let you know more about me soon. CHESTER DOGS: OK Hi! I'm Chester, an awesome little 6 year old shih tzu whose owner passed away, leaving me in need of a new home. I'm a very sweet little boy, full of fun and snuggles! I am great with other dogs, totally fine with cats, and great with kids (those the little tiny ones scare me a bit, so 5+ years or old for me only please!). MAGGIE DOGS: NO Hi! I'm Maggie, a beautiful 6 yr old Weimereiner who was used a breeding machine, and then dumped at the pound when I was no longer "profitable". I couldn't believe it! I mean, I've had dozens of puppies, been a good mom, and where did it get me? Thankfully, Young at Heart gave me a chance, and I've been spayed (whew!) and am going through some professional training so that my new life is nothing like my old one. I love going for walks and spending time bounding out in the yard, and like most Weimereiners, I'm full of life and lots of energy! And between you and me, after have a few dozen kids, I'm kind of done wanting to be around other dogs. It's time for ME to be the spoiled, pampered one! So if you can look past a little bit of my sagginess (hey, dozens of kids, remember? I can't help it!), and want a beautiful trained companion to take for long walks, go running with, or just throw the ball around the back yard with, I'm your girl.
